How to Dress: Tips and Tricks for a More Elegant and Classy Look

People often ask me for advice on what to wear, how to wear it, what trends to buy into, and what’s out of style after I’ve been in the fashion industry for 20 years.

To the extent that I am passionate about fashion as a means of self-expression, I am hesitant to impose any rules or regulations on anybody else’s choice of clothing. The only thing that matters, in my opinion, is that you wear what you want and what makes you feel like you.

However, I have picked up a few tidbits and shortcuts along the way. When it comes to shopping or putting together an outfit in the morning, I rely on the advice of my changing room motto (‘thou shalt not impulse purchase’) and frequent clear-outs to assist me avoid purchasing things that I don’t really need.

  1. First and foremost, keep things simple.

From Sade to Coco Chanel, take inspiration from the greatest. ‘Before you leave the home, look in the mirror and take one item off,’ suggested Mademoiselle Chanel.’ Helpful is a ‘foundation’ of essential goods.

Everybody has their own definition of this, but a beautiful cashmere sweater (like COS’s) and a well-cut trench coat are essentials. These are my go-to shoes.

2) The Right Fit Is Crucial

There is a lady you know who is constantly dressed to impress. Notice how her clothing are always a perfect fit. Unflattering clothing, on the other hand, might have a negative influence on one’s initial impression.

It’s a proven method to add luster to your work when you take the time to focus on fit. The shoulder seam of your shirt; the precise zip of your skirt; the rear of your shoe’s heel meeting the back of your shoe

These little details make a difference, even if they’re hard to see. Rosario Tailoring on Savile Row is my go-to shop for tailoring, and I’ve had a lot of success there.

Find a T-shirt that expresses your feelings in the best possible way.

You may make an impact with a Beychella T-shirt, or a Philip Normal “La” T-shirt, by wearing a T-shirt with your favourite band’s name on it.

Keep things sustainable and long-lasting by using organic cotton wherever feasible. If you’re new to this look, don’t assume graphic T-shirts and shoes have to go together. For example, Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski wear theirs with high-waisted pants and ankle boots.

It’s possible to make a huge difference with the right accessories.

Wearing a bold necklace with an LBD is an easy way to jazz up a favourite set of earrings, belt, or trousers that aren’t quite as slim as you’d want.

Adding too many accessories might make you seem cluttered, so remember the adage “keep it simple.” A ‘wow’ earring is a masterstroke in Zoe Crivitz’s style, which is generally low-key.
